Baking classes

It's probably pretty obvious from most of my posts that I love to cook. And while I like to bake, there is so much more precision and accuracy that is needed, my baked goods never seem to come out right.

Enter the world of "continuing education." Baking classes! My friends Meghan, Brooke and (fellow blogger) Brynn signed up for baking classes.

Our first three hour class was an intro and our latest class was pies. This was my first attempt at making a pie crust (and the tricky lattice topping" but I think our blueberry pie was a success for a first attempt!

Yeast recipes and cakes (including butter cream frosting) are next on the agenda!

Speaking of cakes - Nick and I decided to fast forward the tradition of saving the top layer of wedding cake for the 1 year anniversary and dove into it last weekend when we did dinner at my parents! (Yes, that is the University of Washington Huskies mascot cake...we are big fans!)

What a great idea. My daughter is now living in Seattle and she told me about how fanatical the Husky fans are and I can see it's true. She actually bought season tickets this year - MUCH to our surprise. I'll probably have to root for them now, EXCEPT when they play ASU of course.

Baking classes sound like such fun! We saved our top of the cake and ate it a year later, but it wasn't nearly as good. Probably best to eat it now. Happy weekend!

How fun! Those classes sound so neat.. I wonder if there's something similar in my area! Your pie turned out great! :)

I like that you ate your wedding cake top early.. we'll probably do the same! I'd hate for it to taste aweful a year later. I'll probably just order a small cake around the time of our anniversary.
Very cute pics too! :)

So fun about the classes!! :) And love that you dove into the wedding cake.. hah! So cute. My friends JUST ate theirs on their 1year anni. But, get this. She dropped it getting it out and it hit the floor! She started crying. He picked up a piece of it and said "I didnt get to do this at the wedding b/c you woulda killed me but well..now..." so he threw it at her! They had a big cake fight in the kitchen with their ruined cake! haha! So cute I thought. No idea why I told you that completely random story... haha!

That pie looks great!! You did an awesome job! I think that's fabulous that you already ate the top layer of your cake. You might as well enjoy it!

That class sounds absolutely amazing! The pies look absolutely perfect - great job :) Yummm for buttercream next week! (Which I guess is technically this week).
And good for you, for not worrying about tradition - I'm sure the top layer tasted a lot better now than it would a year from now anyway! :)
