Thailand and Cambodia in September

The countdown is on!  Nick and I are looking forward to our next vacation coming up in less than 6 weeks - Thailand and Cambodia.  We are so excited and it seems a little surreal at this point!  We still have a lot of planning to do, but our tentative plan for our three weeks are:

Angkor Wat

Bangkok

Chiang Mai
-including the highly recommended Patara Elephant Farm (after we booked our flights Patara was the first thing I booked!) We are doing the Elephant Owner For A Day program!

image: Patara
Phuket
-Including Phi Phi Islands and Phang Nga Bay

Koh Samui
-including Ang Thong National Park, Koh Tao

So on that note, we are looking for any recs for those areas!

Loved Thailand and Cambodia. How long will you be in Thailand? I noticed you are going to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Samui (and Ang Thong National Marine Park or Koh Tao- they are different, but close to each other). Can't remember which side of Thailand is rainy in Sept- which means weather will be crappy. If that doesn't matter to you , definitely head to both sides, otherwise spend more time exploring one or the other. Do you scuba dive? I fell in LOVE in Scuba while diving off of Koh Tao. Koh Tao is an amazing little island that doesn't see as many tourists, where Koh Samui is much more touristy (not to mention much bigger). Ang Thong National Marine park was AMAZING. Koh Phi Phi wasn't our favorite, but mostly because it was a popular party destination which isn't really our thing. Either way, the food in Thailand will change your life forever! Also loved CAmbodia! We only made it to Angkor- but we spent two weeks exploring all the temples. Definitely rent bikes and just get lost! The people are so friendly, and everything is dirt cheap- which also makes you a little sad because you realize how hard people have to work for a dollar. Hope you have an amazing time!

My friend Susan lived in Chiang Mail for about a year http://splendorinthelemongrass.com/ and Alana lived there for a while as well http://www.paperplanesblog.com/. They have some really great advice and tid bits on their blogs :) I loved the night market- we always kept walking until we couldn't read the signs anymore and were able to find the food vendors in the heart of it. :)
